Dishing up Holiday Fun: Cooking With Avi Night Returns to West Valley

December 17th welcomed the return of Cooking With Avi Night just in time for the holiday season as West Valley one•n•ten wrapped up its programming for 2013. As part of West Valley’s annual holiday celebration night, Avi facilitated the group in an evening of creative cooking, filled with holiday-themed treats that let the youth celebrate the season in a creative fashion, and also satisfy their sweet tooth. Taking the role of The Zinc Saucier, Avi introduced the activity of decorating gingerbread persons with all manner of colored frostings, rainbow and glittery sprinkles, and candy.
The youth lept into the activity, quickly choosing different sweets to personalize their gingerbread person(s) with a holiday excitement that came from not only the activity at hand, but the fact that this night was the last group meeting of the year, and the last chance for the youth to attend until January. With a mix of alternative holiday songs playing in the background, the mood for the night was light and festive, lending to the second activity of the night with the group contributing to the construction and decoration of a gingerbread bungalow.
The evening ended with social time for the youth and volunteers, allowing for the sharing of wishes for a safe and festive holiday season and a Happy New Year and more than one statement from our youth looking forward to the activities and offerings one•n•ten has in store for 2014.
