West Valley Screams for Ice Cream – Cooking With Avi Night (part deux)

Chocolate syrup, whipping cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, and whole rainbow of other sweet toppings were arranged across the tables as West Valley one n ten youth were eagerly awaiting the finished product of the night: Homemade Ice Cream! This week, our resident Zinc Saucier Avi led the evening in creating a batch of strawberry ice cream fresh on the spot. Youth assisted in adding ingredients, chopping fruit, ice, salt, then all took their turns at the hand crank in mixing up the treat.

Other youth helped in blending up fruit toppings, and setting the buffet of toppings out that rivaled a Cold Stone. Within 40 minutes the batch was ready for serving along with other flavors that Avi had previously made: Dark Chocolate, Raspberry, Blueberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Peaches ‘n Cream which were quickly devoured. With summer almost over, the evening gave the group a chance to not only enjoy a treat; but help in creating their own that everyone else can share. As sweet as the dessert is, the teamwork that went into creating the final product is sweeter still.
