one•n•ten is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and assisting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth ages 14 to 24. From weekly discussion groups to fun, social networking events, we create a safe space, mentally and physically, for youth of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. We also offer resources to promote healthy choices and living. Youth with needs have the option to speak with peers or volunteers one-on-one, in a supervised setting. We provide youth with a variety of tools and opportunities to improve self-esteem and self-acceptance.

2gether N Color is a culturally grounded program designed for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) LGBTQIA+ youth. 2NC offers a brave, affirming space for youth to explore identity, build authentic connections, and grow as leaders.

Job Summary & Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties
This position supports youth that are LGBTQIA+, BIPOC and trans/non-binary and we are looking for a staff person* that has lived experience reflective of the youth this position will serve.
The primary focus of the Youth Center Program Specialist (2NC) will be to plan and implement positive youth development programs and assist in operating one∙n∙ten’s Youth Center, located at 1101 N. Central Avenue.
The 2getherNColor Program Specialist will lead programs that affirm and uplift BIPOC LGBTQIA+ youth, with a special emphasis on trans and non-binary youth of color.
This role focuses on creating meaningful, community-driven experiences that center joy, leadership, and cultural identity. The ideal candidate brings lived experience that reflects the youth we serve and a deep understanding of the issues facing BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.
This full-time position includes programs at the downtown Phoenix Youth Center (3–4 evenings per week), support for online engagement, collaboration with community partners, and leadership at special events such as the annual 2NC Retreat.
This role requires the staff member work in-office at the Youth Center 4-5 days per week, with the option of 1 work from home day per week, when possible.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Program Development & Facilitation
- Build a robust program to empower and support BIPOC youth, encouraging a core group of youth who will help lead the program and provide feedback
- Design and lead engaging, culturally responsive activities that center the experiences of BIPOC LGBTQIA+ youth.
- Empower youth to co-lead and shape programs, fostering peer leadership, and community ownership.
- Facilitate in-person and virtual programs (Zoom, Discord, Twitch) with creativity and consistency.
- Organize and support workshops, events, and annual 2NC Retreat experiences.
- Lead and assist in scheduling special groups/events at the Youth Center in line with grant outcomes
- Cultivate a welcoming, affirming, and safe space that celebrates all intersecting identities.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Serve as a peer navigator and trusted adult for BIPOC, trans, and non-binary youth.
- Develop relationships with schools, community organizations, and local leaders to increase youth participation and referrals.
- Represent one•n•ten at community events, including Phoenix Pride, Rainbows Festival, and others.
Social Media & Youth Communication
- Work with program staff and leadership to develop a robust social media outreach plan and social media strategies to reach new BIPOC youth to one∙n∙ten
- Create engaging digital content and outreach strategies that retain BIPOC youth.
Operations & Administration
- Track participation, program outcomes, and feedback in alignment with grant requirements and organizational goals.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, youth-friendly center environment.
- Support satellite site programming and other special initiatives as needed.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
*Ideal candidate has lived experience reflective of the population we serve and the target population the position is responsible for program development (BIPOC youth and Trans/Non-binary youth), including extensive knowledge of and issues affecting LGBTQIA+, BIPOC and Trans/Non-binary youth.*
- Experience in positive youth development and trauma informed care-based program development & implementation
- Proven experience in program development & implementation to benefit diverse populations of youth and young adults.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with people at all levels and in all settings relevant to the organization’s mission
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to multi-task with confidence and multiple deadlines
- Ability to work remotely and independently at times and as part of a highly collaborative professional team with enthusiasm and commitment
Core Competencies and Abilities:
- GED, High School Diploma or Equivalent, plus some additional training or education demonstrating a commitment to learning.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working or volunteering in human services, youth development or LGBTQ-focused nonprofit
- Maintain a high level of enthusiasm and positive attitude
- Understand, value and respect diversity in all forms, including diversity within the LGBTQ community
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse volunteers, staff, community leaders, organizations, sponsors and their stakeholders
- Demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and maintain confidentiality when required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR & First Aid certifications
- Must be able to meet requirements to pass a Criminal Background Check and receive and maintain a Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Food Handler’s Card
- Ability to work 3-4 evenings per week and weekends as needed
- Proficiency in computer applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Database and email and a working understanding of internet search functionality
- Ability to safely lift 40 lbs.
Schedule: Non-exempt full-time, as needed & required by the position, including regular evening shifts, and occasional weekend work
Physical Requirements/Demands: Standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, stretching and able to lift 40lbs without issue.
Travel: Ability & willingness to drive your own reliable vehicle to travel to various locations. Mileage reimbursement is available.
