JOB SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
This position supports youth that are LGBTQIA+ and trans/non-binary and we are looking for a staff person* that has lived experience reflective of the youth this position will serve.
The Youth Center Program Specialist – TGNC and SOS plays a vital role in creating and facilitating safe, affirming, and strengths-based programming for LGBTQIA+ youth, with a specific focus on Transgender, Non-Binary, and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) individuals.
This full-time position will also serve as the lead staff member for implementing the Sources of Strength (SOS) suicide prevention program at one∙n∙ten. The ideal candidate will bring lived experience and demonstrated commitment to equity, wellness, and community building for LGBTQIA+ youth.
This full-time position includes leading and supporting programs at the Downtown Phoenix Youth Center (3–4 evenings per week), support for online engagement, collaboration with community partners, and leadership at special events such as the annual TGNC Retreat.
This role requires the staff member to work in-office at the Youth Center 4-5 days per week, with the option of 1 work from home day per week, when possible.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
TGNC Programs & Support
- Design and lead engaging, affirming activities tailored for TGNC youth ages 11–24.
- Build and sustain a strong peer leadership cohort that co-develops program content.
- Provide one-on-one mentorship and resource navigation for TGNC youth.
- Collaborate with youth to ensure programming is youth-driven, responsive, and trauma-informed.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment through consistent leadership and adherence to safe space guidelines.
- Serve as a visible, affirming adult advocate within the community.
Sources of Strength (SOS) Implementation
- Lead the implementation and integration of the Sources of Strength program across one∙n∙ten’s Youth Center and satellite sites.
- Facilitate trainings, wellness activities, and peer-led campaigns that promote mental health, resilience, and protective factors.
- Engage youth as peer leaders in the SOS framework, emphasizing storytelling, strength-based approaches, and inclusive messaging.
- Collaborate with schools, community partners, and national SOS trainers to ensure fidelity to program goals and impact measurement.
- Coordinate and track participation, campaign outcomes, and youth leadership growth aligned with grant requirements.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Represent one∙n∙ten at community events such as Phoenix Pride, Rainbows Festival, and relevant mental health or TGNC-centered events.
- Build and sustain partnerships with schools, organizations, and providers focused on gender-affirming care and youth mental wellness.
- Assist in creating social media campaigns and digital outreach materials to support TGNC visibility and wellness.
Operations & Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate participation records, evaluations, and reports in alignment with funding and organizational goals.
- Support Youth Center shifts (3–4 evenings per week) and occasional weekend events.
- Contribute to the physical upkeep and atmosphere of the Youth Center as a clean, youth-friendly, and affirming space.
- Assist with data collection and outcome tracking in platforms such as Salesforce or similar.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS and ABILITIES
- *Ideal candidate has lived experience reflective of the population we serve and the target population the position is responsible for, Trans/Non-binary youth.
- Experience in positive youth development and trauma informed care-based program development & implementation
- Proven experience in program development & implementation to benefit diverse populations of youth and young adults.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with people at all levels and in all settings relevant to the organization’s mission
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to multi-task with confidence and multiple deadlines
- Ability to work remotely and independently at times and as part of a highly collaborative professional team with enthusiasm and commitment
CORE COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES
Required:
- Lived experience reflective of TGNC and/or LGBTQIA+ identities served.
- GED, High School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in youth development, human services, LGBTQ+ nonprofits, or suicide prevention/mental health fields.
- Experience in trauma-informed care, resilience-based programming, and youth empowerment.
- Ability to work evening hours (3–4 nights per week) and occasional weekends.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Check and maintain a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler’s certifications.

- Demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and maintain confidentiality when required
- Experience facilitating the Sources of Strength curriculum or other evidence-based suicide prevention/ wellness programs.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Google Suite, Salesforce, or youth program data systems.
- Ability to safely lift 40 lbs and travel locally with mileage reimbursement available.
SCHEDULE
Non-exempt full-time, as needed & required by the position, including regular evening shifts, and occasional weekend work
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS
Standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, stretching, and able to lift 40lbs without issue.
TRAVEL
Ability & willingness to drive your own reliable vehicle to travel to various locations. Mileage reimbursement is available.
