Poetry Writing – Blackout Poetry
May 13 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
We’ll discuss how word choice can make or break a poem. See examples from poems that demonstrate impactful writing, such as Letter to the Person Who Carved His Initials into the Oldest Living Longleaf Pine in North America by Matthew Olzmann, Two-Headed Calf by Laura Gilpin, and The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell. Then join in an open discussion about how the authors’ word choice impacts the poem. Young folks be given a prompt and art supplies to create their own blackout poetry.
