Nate Rhoton

Chief Executive Officer

Nate Rhoton serves as the CEO for one-n-ten, an LGBTQ non-profit delivering youth services in Arizona. Joining the team in 2015, he served as the Director of Development followed by Director of Finance & Operations, before assuming his current role in January of 2018.

Following a career of fifteen years in corporate management and finance, Rhoton chose to serve the community with his nonprofit fundraising and development expertise. Serving for twelve years as the operations director and then CFO of a local construction company, he worked to expand corporate community involvement and non-discrimination protections to LGBTQ employees. Managing significant growth for the company, he saw early on the need for continued staff development and instituted training to increase retention and help new employees to assume higher paying roles within the company.

Born and raised in Arizona, Nate graduated from Flagstaff High School and then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Arizona State University’s WP Carey School of Business graduating magna cum laude in 2000. Over the last decade, he has committed himself to nonprofit service, serving on the Arizona steering committee of the Human Rights Campaign, the board of the Greater Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, The Melonhead Foundation, and as co-chair of the board of directors for Equality Arizona. Currently he serves as the chair of the Human Relations Commission for the City of Phoenix, vice chair of Leading for Change, and on the LGBTQ Advisory to the Chancellor of Maricopa County Community Colleges.

In his free time, he loves spending time with his Scottie-Golden, Sir William.

David Cane

Vice Chair

David is the Chief Commercial Officer for Wag! Labs, where he leads all of customer experience and e-commerce for the organization. He has spent his 20+ year career leading operations for national and global brands like Uber, The Home Depot, and T-Mobile.

David and his husband have been residents of the valley for the past 10 years and have dedicated their time, talent, and energy to advancing support for BIPOC LGBTQIA+ individuals through service and philanthropic efforts. David has been devoted to the service of others in both his professional and private life. As the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for One N Ten, he hopes to bring institutional operational knowledge to the organization as well as visibility and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ young people.

Angie Dittrich

Secretary

Angie is a Senior Manager at American Express. Her responsibilities include creating foundational risk policies that prevent credit and fraud loss. She began her career at American Express in 2011 and has held a variety of roles with increasing complexity across the enterprise, primarily focused on leading projects in fraud prevention, network policy, and Anti-Money-Laundering.
Angie is a lead for the American Express Phoenix PRIDE+ Colleague Network, where she drives the vision of fostering an environment that feels safe and accepting for community members. She achieves her vision through supporting and enabling LGBTQIA+ colleagues to succeed as their authentic selves in the workplace.

Angie is passionate about working with One-n-Ten, to ensure the next generation of our community has access to valuable resources and a strong community to lean on.

Rick McCartney

Immediate Past Chair

Rick McCartney has been leading businesses in Phoenix for the past 20 years. President and CEO of InMedia Company and Surf Media, Inc., he is responsible for producing many local, regional and national publications, media products and technologies, including Surf Entertainment tablets for Uber and Lyft, In Business Magazine, the Vicinity Magazines and numerous digital products. He is a member of several local boards including one n ten, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, Local First Arizona, Phoenix Film Foundation and the Governors’ Workforce Council and is a member of Greater Phoenix Leadership. He is involved with New Pathways for Youth as a mentor of two youth and works with many children’s and education organizations to form strong career pathways and opportunities for underprivileged children and their families. Rick is an advocate for revised education policy, foster care policy and economic development opportunities in Arizona.

Bev Crair

Board Member

Bev Crair currently leads the Compute team for Oracle Corporation as Senior Vice President. Previously, she was the Vice President responsible for all product development (servers, storage, networking, software, quality, support and security) for Lenovo’s Data Center group. She also was a VP/GM at Intel, and has done stints at Cisco, Sun Microsystems and even Unisys. Bev specializes in organizational design, development and dynamics with a focus on building high performing teams; business strategy and planning, new technology development and implementation. In her spare time, Bev serves as a Trustee with the University of California Santa Cruz Foundation, and spends time with her wife motorcycling or scuba diving.

Alicia Cowdrey

Board Member

Alicia Cowdrey, MD, currently serves as the Vice Chair and Outpatient Medical Director of Psychiatry/Behavioral Health for Valleywise Health and District Medical Group. This is innovative and rewarding work that matches her professional health care philosophies: person centered care, shared decision making, and recovery as identified by the person with the support of a qualified and compassionate health care team.

Alicia trained at Maricopa Integrated Health System for psychiatry residency and the University of Arizona for undergraduate and medical school. Alicia values education highly and loves teaching, educating patients, their families, the community, staff, residents, fellows, and medical students. She serves as the Associate Program Director for the Creighton Psychiatry Residency program, to train the next generation of psychiatrists.

Prior to her career as a physician, Alicia has worked the front lines of mental health since 2001, serving as a case manager and various other clinical and administrative roles.

In her free time, Alicia enjoys organizing fun social events for family and friends, traveling, road trips, concerts, enjoying the lovely Arizona outdoors, and cheering on the University of Arizona Wildcats.

Shawn Gensch

Board Member

Shawn Gensch (he/him) is a retail marketing and finance executive with over 25 years of professional experience. Shawn’s consulting business supports clients’ transformation, marketing strategy, creative, brand, media and communication initiatives.

Shawn moved to Arizona in 2015 and served as Chief Customer Officer at Sprouts Farmers Market. Prior to Sprouts, Shawn was SVP, Marketing at Target Corporation, leading paid, owned, and earned media for the enterprise, including media strategy, public relations, events and lifestyle marketing, strategic partnerships, and all traditional, digital, social and direct-to-guest channels. In previous marketing roles at Target, he led Brand marketing, Storewide and Seasonal campaigns, Agency management, and Marketing finance, production and technology teams.

Shawn joined Target as Director, New Business Development in 2003 and was promoted to VP, Product Design & Development at Target Financial Services. He led the de novo start up of Target Bank, serving as the first President for that enterprise. He also led Financial Product Planning and Development and led the design and launch of Target’s debit card product.

Prior to Target, Shawn worked in various roles within structured finance, insurance, banking and consulting, beginning his career with KPMG after earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. Shawn was VP, Assistant Treasurer for Green Tree Financial Corporation (Conseco Finance) and led their commercial paper program and asset-based funding conduits, syndicated banking lines and structured-finance securitization across numerous asset classes. Shawn also served as CFO and CEO of Conseco’s bank, Mill Creek Bank in Salt Lake City UT, prior to joining Target.

Shawn served on the board of directors for one•n•ten in Phoenix AZ from 2016 through 2022 and for Avenues for Youth in Minneapolis MN from 2008 through 2016.

Dr. Floyd H. Hardin, III

Board Member

Dr. Floyd H. Hardin, III is currently serving in the role of the Executive Officer of Equity and College Relations. In this role Dr. Hardin’s duties encompass both the responsibilities of Chief of staff and that of the Chief Diversity Officer for the organization.

Preceding his current role, Dr. Hardin served as Rio Salado College’s Senior Officer of Outreach, Inclusion and Strategic Partnerships. He operated as the institution’s primary contact for national partnership opportunities, educational transfer partners to support college-university transfer pathways and B2B partnerships to support revenue generating goals, industry and college-to-career pathway projects.

Dr. Hardin earned his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University; Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Arizona State University; and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Humanities Studies from Morehouse College.

Dr. Hardin is proud to be an educational service provider, and works every day to personify the quote by Marian Wright Edelman, “Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not merely something you do in your spare time.”

Tracy Nadzieja

Board Member

Tracy Nadzieja was appointed to the Maricopa County Superior Court bench in 2018 becoming the first transgender judicial officer in Arizona and only the third in the United States. She is currently presiding over one of the Court’s criminal divisions. Prior to her judicial appointment, Tracy practiced law in Phoenix for nearly 25 years representing major insurance companies, Arizona municipalities and constructions design professionals. She was recognized as a Southwest SuperLawyer (2015-2018). She earned both her B.S. (Political Science) and J.D. degrees at Arizona State University.

Tracy has had the opportunity to speak to diverse audiences around the country educating them about issues facing the transgender community. In her spare time, Tracy serves as a regional volunteer of Kappa Kappa Gamma, a collegiate women’s fraternity and enjoys playing competitive softball.

Dom Sims

Board Member

Dom Sims has been in the banking industry for 13 years where he spent most of his career in branch management. Dom currently works at U.S. Bank as a Performance Excellence Specialist where he actively partners with market and district leaders by curating and executing targeted plans to address performance improvement.

Dom also served as Arizona’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Champion at U.S. Bank and currently serves as the Geographic Lead for the Spectrum LGBTQ+ employee resource group in Arizona. Additionally, Dom launched the Black Heritage virtual chapter as VP and now serves on the newly formed Black Heritage Global Board as the Grow Director where he is involved in the execution of the bank’s strategy around Black employees, including the creation of the first Employee Wellness Support Circle for Black employees and allies.

Outside of banking, Dom has a passion for mental health awareness and holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Arizona State University and is currently working on his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University where he is currently interning as a Behavioral Health Clinician at the Southwest Center. It is his goal to help break the stigma of mental health not only in a professional environment, but with the LGBTQ+ community as well as communities of color specifically. Dom also likes to explore the crossover between psychology and leadership, using behavioral science and organizational psychology to drive human performance.

Michael Soto

Board Member

Michael S.C. Soto is a political strategist and social justice scholar. His clients include One Community, where he works as the Chief Advocacy Officer and the Equality and Fairness Campaign. He is delighted to serve the Arizona LGBTQ+ community on the one-n-ten and Equality Arizona boards. Michael is a long-time leader in the LGBTQ+ movement in Arizona and the nation.

He is a graduate of ASU with a Bachelor of Arts in Women and Gender Studies and a Master of Science in Justice Studies. Michael is currently a PhD student in Justice Studies at ASU, where his studies focus on pluralism as the antidote to political polarization and extremism. He believes to his core that justice is a lifelong process and hopes to make some meaningful contribution to creating a more just society during his lifetime.

Sima Thakkar

Board Member

Sima Thakkar (She/hers) is a Investment Associate at the Raza Development Fund, a national Community Development Financial Institution focused on access to capital for underserved communities. Prior to this role she was a Regional Relationship Manager for PetSmart Charities, a leading funder of animal welfare initiatives in North America. In this role she oversees a grantmaking portfolio for the eastern part of the US, including 16 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. She is an Urban Planner with a Master of Regional Planning degree from Cornell University and over a decade of experience in affordable housing and community development initiatives. Prior to joining PetSmart Charities in 2016, she managed the City of San Diego’s Community Development Programs, including federal programs focused on affordable housing, economic development and homelessness programs.
